5 main types of bottle corks:

Glass Cork:

This one is a recent invention and has earned quite a name in the market. We will begin with the negative aspect as there is one only. Most people feel that a glass cork is quite expensive when compared to the other corks. At the same time, it is not a disadvantage because a lot of people can still afford it, and it is simply worth the price that we are paying. Glass corks are pretty, and it can be easily opened and closed as there is a nob and simply preserves the taste and the nature of the wine.

Crown Corks:

Crown corks are the most common types of corks that are prevalent today. It is not very much expensive but at the same time they are no way less to the glass corks as the crown corks are able to tolerate high pressure and many companies use it as it would preserve their product much better, apart from this the crown corks aren’t expressive as the glass corks. But the demerit with crown corks is that they are reusable, it can be used only before the opening of the bottle. Once the bottle is opened, the cork has to be replaced by something else.

Screw caps:

Again one of the most common types of corks is the screw type ones. While most people use the cork for using caps, there are still doubts regarding whether they share the same demerit as that of crown corks which cannot be reused once opened. However, the cork is capable of holding gas, and it is suitable for both medium and long-term wines.

Natural Cork:

Natural cork is the oldest type of cork that is still used by a lot of old winemakers to close their bottles. At the same time, people feel that the use of these corks is becoming relatively less these days. There are three different types of natural corks, the one piece, the multi-piece and the colmated cork. These corks are made out of natural wood.

Synthetic Cork:

This one is the synthetic version of natural corks, and they are made out of plastic polymers. These corks were invented before like 40 years ago, and they had quite an entry in the market. However, most people who hold wine for a long period didn’t prefer these type of cork as they brought the plastic smell into the wine that is inside.
